Activity director

REPORTS TO:  Center Director

Objective

Ensure daily activities and programs encourage socialization and provide entertainment, enjoyment, and fulfilment to Town Square members.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Including but not limited to:

  • Manage the planning, implementation, and evaluation of Town Square daily activity programming. Direct reports include, but are not limited to:
    • Program Assistants
    • Personal Care Assistants
    • Teen Program Assistants in Training
    • Center Volunteers
  • Actively participate in daily activities and directly engage with Town Square members
  • Plan and create monthly program calendars using the Town Square programming guide
  • Schedule members for appropriate activities based on preferences, interests, and GEM level
  • Plan and execute special events, theme parties, milestone birthdays/anniversaries, and any other occasion that promotes the unique features of community and connection at Town Square
  • Assist Director of Development with Memory Cafés and other significant marketing events as requested
  • Coordinate with professionals who partner with Town Square to enhance programming.
  • Work closely with the Center Director to ensure programs and staffing meet Town Square goals and adhere to approved budgets
  • Ensure calendar of events and programs are planned quarterly, well-documented, and communicated clearly to all support staff
  • Provide ongoing training and support to program assistants for all activities and programs
  • Lead morning team huddles and support staff to review daily activities and specific member needs
  • Coach and monitor performance of care providers during day-to-day activities
  • Perform annual performance reviews of all direct support staff with guidance from Center Director
  • Recruit a core of Center Volunteers to enrich activities and manage their participation
  • Participate in after-hour events to promote Town Square
  • Manage decorating for all major holidays, working within a budget approved by Center Director
  • In cooperation with Center Director and Enrollment Manager, assist with decorating and facilitating special programs during annual Winter Wonderland
  • Help coordinate member transportation as required
  • Direct food service to members, following all protocols for food safety and sanitation. Oversee serving team to ensure all members are engaged and cued if needed. Work in cooperation with all servers to provide a positive dining experience with appropriate dining etiquette.
  • Assist with Town Square tours when necessary
  • Assure all Town Square property—furniture, equipment, supplies, and resources are well maintained
  • Advise Center Director re any need to replace worn/broken resources, equipment, decorations, or storefront accessories. Manage re-ordering of consumable supplies

REQUIREMENTS

  • A degree in therapeutic recreation, gerontology, education; or Activity Director Certification or related field preferred
  • A minimum of three years direct programming experience with older adults and persons with dementia preferred, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office/Microsoft 365, with ability to quickly learn new software applications
  • General knowledge of technology and inclination to learn new functions
  • Successful results of background check, and where applicable, additional state specific regulatory requirements
