When staying home alone no longer feels like the right fit

For many families, there comes a point when the day starts to feel like the hardest part.

Maybe your mom is becoming more forgetful. Maybe your spouse is less steady, more isolated, or having a harder time following a routine. Maybe you are trying to juggle work, family, appointments, and caregiving, and it is getting harder to do it all without more help.

    You may be asking yourself:

    • Is it still safe for them to be home alone all day?
    • Are they getting enough interaction, activity, and support?
    • Would they do better with more structure?
    • How much longer can I keep doing this on my own?

If those questions have been weighing on you, you are not alone.

A structured, supportive day for your loved one — and more peace of mind for you

Town Square Sarasota is more than a place to spend the day.

It is a structured adult day care program for older adults who benefit from more routine, more engagement, and more support during the day.

Here, members can take part in meaningful activities, spend time with others, and move through the day with support from a team trained to care for older adults, including those living with Alzheimer’s and other dementias.

For families, that can mean something just as important: a little room to breathe, more confidence during the day, and the sense that your loved one is somewhere they are known, supported, and cared for.

Families want to feel confident in the choice they are making

Choosing daytime support is a big decision. Many families start by visiting in person, asking questions, and hearing from others who have been in a similar situation.

Today my husband and I were stopping into Kohl’s and I remarked that I had seen our jukebox on a commercial for Town Square Sarasota. Tim Cottrell happened to be in the parking lot at the time and invited us in to take a tour. We were absolutely blown away by the care, compassion, kindness and activities available to these folks who are in need of daytime care and stimulation due to Alzheimer’s or varying levels of cognitive and social stimulation. This was just an amazing facility, only like we’ve never seen before. Each area takes you back in time reenacting a setting from the 40’s, 50’s, 60’s etc . Park Scenes, a TBird( I believe) a 50’s Diner, a movie theater, City Hall, all feeling as though we were in Disney World. Wow, we were so impressed and all the guests seemed to be smiling and engaged. My dad was in a full time ALF back in 2007 and I wish there had been a Town Square back at that time. If you know of a family member or friend who is in need of this sort of “Day care “, stop in for a tour! We know you’ll be as impressed as we were! Thsnk you, Tim!

Town Square is a win-win! It's an outstanding senior day care program which works well for my husband AND for me! He enjoys the interactions, stimulation and activities. I know he is safe and with caring, attentive staff. That allows me time for myself and respite as a caregiver. The owners, Michael and Sherri Finn, are actively involved and visible which adds to the overall quality of the program. I highly recommend Town Square!

Without a doubt, this is the best place to leave my father whenever I have to go out to run an errand. I love the care they show toward people like my father—who is 88 years old—and, seeing how much he enjoys it, I now take him there three times a week so he can socialize while I work from home. We love Town Square! Thank you to the owners (Finn’s Family) and the staff for such excellent work.

My husband has been going to Town Square for only two weeks, but I have to tell you that it made a huge impact on his life and his enjoyment of life after his very first day. He’s smiling when I drop him off and he’s smiling or laughing when I pick him up. He doesn’t remember specific things he did or what he has for lunch but he’ll tell me they have a lot of activities and he has a lot of fun. After getting home from being there last Thursday, he told me he has hope. I am so grateful to have found this place and for all they do there. I wish I had taken him sooner. I thought I was doing him a favor, but I wasn’t. I will be happy to talk to any of you who might be considering enrolling a loved one. It it’s a magical place!

Town Square Sarasota was a blessing to my husband and a God-send to me during the last year of his life. Town Square got him off the couch and engaged with life and people at his own level, and it gave me extra time to catch up on my caretaker workload. I found all the staff to be consistently expert and caring at everything they do. Amazing. No matter what my husband's complex medical condition threw at them, they always knew the right thing to do. Both he and I felt cared for, cared about and supported. Recommend highly.

Communication is prompt and efficient. For the hours he is at Town Square, I can breathe easy knowing how well cared for he is. I enthusiastically and wholeheartedly support your loved one attending this amazing innovative day care center. I have to give Michael Finnn, his beautiful wife Sheri and a dedicated staff second to none for creatively redefining what adult day care could be like for clients with Alzheimers.

Diagnosis: Alzheimer’s, Life just hit a wall. What do you do? Where to start?

Sarasota has a number of resources available to help us; but the one I needed the most was Town Square Sarasota. I needed TIME, a break to take care of other things including myself.
TOWN SQUARE is a unique adult daycare. I can drop my husband off at “the club” as we call it and know that he is well taken care of. Sherrie and Michael are always at the front door to greet him by name. They are very cheerful and welcoming. Their staff are very experienced, ,and I feel very comfortable leaving him there. I know he will be safe and happy. I will admit, he was not that excited to go in the beginning but now he looks forward to Monday and seeing some new friends. They have a monthly calendar of events, and activities, that are fun, and stimulating.
You need to investigate everything that TOWN SQUARE SARASOTA offers.

My Mom (96) does not remember what she has for lunch or what activities she did but she always remembers how she is treated. “They are all so very nice” is not a compliment my Mom shares easily. Mom loves going back each week. Thank you Sherri and Michael for providing a wonderful environment. David R

I am forever thankful as a caregiver to have Town Square Adult Center for my husband. The love and compassion that Michael, Sherri and all of the outstanding staff give to these adults is truly amazing. It is comforting to know that my husband is well supported and individually cared for on a daily basis with all of the well thought out activities, programs, meals, performers, fitness, plus that provide an all around special fun day. I have personally been involved having taken our pet therapy dog in for all of those dog lovers to pet and enjoy and have seen the over and above care that each person receives. It took a while for my husband to warm up to being away from me, however, after a while he has become accepting of it as another home with newly made friends. He so enjoyed and couldn't stop talking about the interaction between the staff and most everyone of throwing soft snowballs at each other. Town Square is definitely the place to give your loved one a new lease on life as well as providing some well deserved time for those providing the care.

This is from my patient about Town Square:

My husband, Bob Irwin, has been going to Town Square since July of 2024. Having been diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease and facing a new experience, his first time was one of total rejection. This was a situation away from home that he wasn't used to. Many of the he staff at Town Square came out to welcome him with open arms. He is now going three times a week and ends the day with a smile on his face. Bob loves the music entertainment that is so varied and adapted to the ages of the people there. It is truly an upscale facility that I am thankful to have the opportunity to enroll my husband. The owners Michael and Sherry and staff are super devoted to the welfare of each enrolled person. They have worked hard to engage enjoyable activities, varied entertainment, physical activities and camaraderie among those enrolled. I am thankful to have a safe and loving place for my husband to attend. It gives me as a caretaker a chance do my errands and meet with friends without concern for his well being.

Town Square is a magical place. It almost feels like a dream. A car on display, pool table, basketball made for the indoors, arts and crafts, warm and loud colors every where...staffed with the nicest people headed up by Michael and Sherri whose love and care for my mother was above and beyond. They brought my mother back to life. She can't get enough. 10 out of 10. Highly recommend.

Town Square is a wonderful place to send your loved one. From the very first visit we were met with such warmth and kindness -- every single person we've encountered has been so incredibly sweet and compassionate. The facility itself is great, beautifully decorated, and very inviting. They have activities, themed events, and entertainment throughout the week and even some health-related therapy/offerings. Everybody I've seen entering and leaving there always seems so happy. I think Town Square is a fantastic place and Sarasota is lucky to have it as part of its community.

Best decision for mom! Town Square has pulled mom back from the isolation she had slipped into as a result of dementia and hearing loss. Her demeanor had become remote and sometimes angry. I work from home, but the attention I could give mom was not adequate - leaving me with a sense of guilt each day. When I pick mom up from Town Square she is beaming - each day she is active and engaged all day long. The staff is wonderful - their genuine care shines through. Town Square has been a true blessing for mom and my entire family.

My father really enjoys going to Town Square. Lots of activities and the entire staff are great to work with and very friendly. Definitely recommend.
My dad is 93 years old and has been attending Town Square five days a week for the past year. At first he was hesitant to go but after a few weeks he settled in and now thinks of it as his home away from home. I have been so impressed with the staff and activities that they plan each day which includes, exercise, music and art. Its been so helpful for me, to have a safe place for my dad to go and be engaged throughout the day. Town Square has also given him back a bit of his independence which he has been longing for.

The town Square is lovely. It does so many great things for people. I am having a hard time getting my mom to try to go there eventually she will be there where she can go and enjoy more things. I suggest anyone that is looking to look into the town Square. They do amazing things there. I spent Quite a bit of time there on one day and watched what they did and saw the change in the classes and stuff they handle it very well.

Taking my dad to adult day care was a huge decision for our family. We had a trial day and then were blessed to get approved through the VA. I cried the first day I dropped him off. I worried he wouldn't be taken care of or he would not be happy. But Town Square has proved to be a life-changing experience for not only my dad but for me, as his caregiver, as well. Dad used to spend his days watching news all day and napping. I was watching him deteriorate and age before my very eyes. Now, because of Town Square, I have my dad back! When I pick him up at the end of his day he can't stop talking, telling me that he danced, had a delicious lunch, was the champion at cornhole, did a word search and he made a new friend. None of which had he done in over a year. The staff is made up of amazing, caring and knowledgeable people. The services are above and beyond, podiatry, CVS immunizations, Veteran's Group, caregiver support groups, exercise class, daily entertainers, breakfast, lunch and snacks and sooo much more. The center is immaculate and decorated 1950's style. I have noticed a huge improvement in my dad in just a few short months. He is definitely more cognitive, socially engaged and upbeat. And because there are constant activities going on he doesn't sit in one place for very long and he is much more ambulatory than he was. I can drop my dad off and head to work and know he is not only safe but happy, this peace of mind is priceless. This journey isn't easy but the loving owners (Michael & Sherri Finn-who are there every day!) and their amazing staff, have made this their life mission, and it shows, and the lives of clients and their families are forever enriched.

I am a new volunteer at the Sarasota Town Square. My background is : Nurse practitioner, Educator, corporate health care managment.
My passions are helping others professionally and in the community, playing the piano, writing , art and physical fitness. I was totally unprepared for the Town Square paradigm, its physical spaces, the activities, the caring and friendly staff who watch over and love the members.
I have worked for fifty years in all kinds of hospital and health care facilities and have never experienced the warmth, caring, happiness of the "family" of members and staff.
When you walk in to this world of smiles and hugs, of stories and activities you are entering a very very special world.
Caregivers, family members, and staff all get nurturing benefits from this model.
Please come and visit it and tell your friends about Town Square Sarasota.
    Thank you

My father, 82 yrs old, has been attending Town Square for the past year. It gets him out of the house and interacting with others. The Administration and staff have been supportive of the challenges of caring for our loved ones who are aging and requiring more attention and care. They have a themed day or bring in outside entertainment weekly to keep the routine fresh.

Our experience with Town Square SRQ was absolutely amazing from our initial phone call through to my dad's 90th birthday party. Michael and his staff went above and beyond to ensure we had everything needed for a first-class event. They communicated promptly and worked with us, and our caterer as well, to make sure everything went as planned. It is an impeccably clean and fantastically decorated venue with a great AV tech system and kitchen. From the T-bird to the movie theater to the diner, my dad had his best birthday ever! All of our guests are still raving about his party and the hidden gem that is Town Square SRQ! Call Michael to schedule your next celebration event!

I am fortunate to entertain twice a month at Towne Square, an “Adult Day Care” facility for the elderly. Towne Square feels like the 1950s with its iconic butter-yellow Thunderbird convertible, and a soda shop with Poodle Skirts, School pennants, and LPs decoration. The folks are provided with lunch and an afternoon snack. When I arrive for my sing-along concerts in the theater, the daily visitors are participating in quiz shows, snippets of famous movies, or other material offering mental stimulation via the big screen.

Studios host activities which range from physical exercise, arts, and crafts, (such as a large dollhouse created by an attendee), board games, and music therapy. These folks also enjoy geography and history on ‘Theme Days.’ For example, if the subject is Paris, they have virtual tours, listen to French music, and might share experiences of Paris. The environment at Towne Square is one of wide-ranging interests with staff supporting cognitive growth.

The many Veterans are treated to singing the ‘Service Medley’ before departing around 4:00pm. As a Veteran myself, I am pleased to see military dress uniforms shown in a glass case. On the way out, I always take a last glance at the Thunderbird and look forward to my next performance with these fun seniors.

A very engaging atmosphere with friendly staff! This Senior Day Care program is amazing for care partners needing a respite.
Town Square has been a god-send for me. My husband attends daily. The staff is experienced, professional and compassionate. They are attentive, patient and kind to each of the attendees and regularly communicate with me. The facility is so "happy" and inviting. The activities are evidence-based. I love the Thursday music program with Key Chorale, an amazing Sarasota choral arts group that has developed a program especially for people with dementia. The owners are extraordinary. Our family physician toured the facility and met with the owners and enthusiastically gave his "seal of approval." This is the ONLY place I would take my husband.

I heard about Town Square from several neighbors who couldn't say enough great things about it. I decided to volunteer because I love seniors! The staff at Town Square truly love each person who walks through that door. I watch with a happy heart as each person greets their friends and engage in the music and activities for the day. Lunchtime is especially wonderful because each table is filled with laughter from each senior just enjoying each other. If you've been hesitating about bringing your loved one with dementia here, give it a try! I believe it will be just what they need. . . as well as giving you peace of mind while you get some well earned time off from care giving.
