Town Square Jersey Shore – Groundbreaking Adult Day Enrichment Center Celebrates Grand Opening

PRESS RELEASE (BRICK, NEW JERSEY – July 26, 2021 — Town Square Jersey Shore, a groundbreaking day center for senior citizens is officially open serving the South Jersey community, including those living with Alzheimer’s and dementia. The grand opening was celebrated on Weds. July (14) marking the first location of its kind in New Jersey and the third in the country. Attendees included community dignitaries, healthcare partners and business associates. Town Square Jersey Shore is the first 50’s themed day-care destination for all senior citizens at all stages, it is an environment where they can feel safe, comfortable and engage in activities making new friends. Town Square Jersey Shore is a sister company to Senior Helpers®, New Jersey’s premier provider of in-home senior care.

The new concept is a fully functioning 1950s environment to bring seniors back to the happy memories of their teenage and young-adult years. The mid-century conceptual town features 13 distinct storefronts and experiences that encourage socialization and gathering while recalling exciting memories among old and new friends alike. Town Square includes a 1950s-era diner, golden age movies at the Starlite Theater, a library, an art studio/craft room, and recreation room, garage with a beautiful vintage car, bocce ball court, newsstand and music room, all arranged around Glenner Park, the heart of Town Square.

“Town Square represents an important step forward in the future of senior care in this country,” said Kevin Herman, operator of Town Square Jersey Shore. “It offers all seniors a location to gather, socialize and find a sense of belonging. For families of those living with Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia, the safe, affordable care, close to home provided at Town Square and the thoughtful design of the center itself is truly an original concept.”

As one enters Town Square Jersey Shore located at 1930 NJ-88, they will see a colorful mural with the iconic Jersey Shore sign and a Ferris Wheel, to the left of the entrance is the 1955 mint green Oldsmobile secured by Michael Riebe, the Founder and Director of the National Chrysler Products Club in the Jersey Shore Region. Riebe went above and beyond the call of duty and not only found the vintage car but buffed it, made some minor repairs and his club member even secured an original 1955 Ocean County license plate. Town Square owner was grateful for his hard work and thought best to honor him by naming the Town Square garage after him- Mike’s Garage. The Garage naming ceremony was part of the festivities at the grand opening.

Town Square Jersey Shore’s Grand Opening was official when Brick Township Mayor John G. Ducey led the ribbon cutting. Mayor Ducey said, “The Township of Brick is thrilled to welcome this unique and valuable center that gives seniors in our area an opportunity to come together and enjoy different activities in a one-of-a-kind environment, seniors can make new friends while sharing memories of the past.”

Throughout the day, members participate in a wide range of stimulating activities focused on enjoying favorite pastimes. They include shooting pool with friends in the Game Room, expressing artistic and craft abilities in the Craft Corner, getting together for book club in the Learning Center watching favorite movies in the Starlite Theater and playing lawn games in Glenner Park. Seniors are encouraged to actively contribute ideas and their skills and experience to activities. For instance, members may be asked to talk about their favorite old movies or hobbies and pastimes, sparking reminiscing discussion with others and leading into an activity.

Activities evoke a time when members were young adults and have been designed to appeal to all seniors. For those living with dementia and Alzheimer’s, Town Square can be particularly beneficial. Professionals use a behavioral approach known as reminiscence therapy that uses prompts such as movies, music, photographs, games and other vintage props to stimulate long-term memories. Reminisce therapy has been shown to reduce anxiety and lessen symptoms and side-effects of the disease by helping seniors recall older memories and to feel valued, contented and peaceful.

Town Square is designed to accommodate approximately 200 members per day, for half- or full- days a week.
Through a strategic alliance with Senior Helpers and the George G. Glenner Alzheimer’s Family Centers Inc.® Glenner Town Square®, based in Chula Vista, Ca, Town Square is able to uniquely cater to the needs of Alzheimer’s and dementia patients. (Note: I did not understand this paragraph as written, so edited as best I could.)
