2026 Education Event Series

Town Square University Parkway is proud to offer a complimentary educational class for caregivers on the third Wednesday of every month from 3:00 to 4:00 PM EST. This free program is led by Catherine McDermott, PMHNP—a double board-certified Nurse Practitioner with 30 years of experience in geriatric psychiatry, dementia care, cognitive impairments, and age-related behavioral health. Catherine delivers a level of insight and practical guidance rarely accessible to caregivers outside of a clinical setting.
Town Square University Parkway continues to lead the adult day environment and dementia care industry because of our unparalleled medical-based model. Every service we provide—from cognitive engagement to behavioral support—is rooted in clinical expertise, allowing caregivers to receive compassionate education backed by real medical understanding. This combination of professional insight and hands-on support is what makes our caregiver classes truly transformative for families navigating a progressive disease like dementia. The class is held at our town center in the Walmart plaza off Lockwood Ridge and University and is open to all caregivers in the community at no cost.
During our March educational class, caregivers will explore evidence-based communication strategies designed specifically for individuals experiencing Alzheimer’s disease, dementia, or cognitive decline. This session will help caregivers understand how cognitive decline alters communication and perception; how to use verbal and non-verbal communication techniques that actually work; how to use redirection instead of correction; how to avoid conflict and prevent unnecessary escalation; and how to create more positive, meaningful interactions with loved ones—no matter their stage of progression.
This class is more than education—it is a game changer. Caregivers leave with practical tools they can implement immediately, greater confidence in their caregiving role, a deeper understanding of their loved one’s needs, and a renewed sense of hope. We encourage caregivers to attend and to invite friends, neighbors, or family members who may also benefit from this life-changing resource.
