Community Comes Together to Support Seniors Displaced by the Aviata Roof Collapse
When tragedy strikes, our community has a way of coming together in incredible ways. Following the roof collapse at Aviata in Bradenton, more than 150 seniors were unexpectedly displaced from their homes. Many had to leave with very little, creating an immediate need for clothing, toiletries, bedding, and other everyday essentials.
Town Square University Parkway was honored to serve as one of the local collection sites, working alongside the Suncoast Aging Network and so many generous community partners to help collect, organize, and distribute donations to seniors in need. Over just a few short days, our lobby quickly filled with boxes and bags donated by local families, businesses, healthcare partners, and community organizations. The outpouring of generosity was truly incredible to witness and a reminder of just how much our community cares for its older adults.
Thanks to the coordinated efforts of volunteers, moving companies, and the Suncoast Aging Network, these donations were sorted and delivered to seniors who had been relocated to communities throughout the region. What started as an overwhelming situation quickly became a story of compassion, kindness, and neighbors helping neighbors.
At Town Square University Parkway, we’re proud to support older adults not only within our center but throughout our community. Whether it’s providing resources for caregivers, partnering with local organizations, or stepping up during times of crisis, we’re committed to being part of the solution and making a difference wherever we can.
To everyone who donated, volunteered, shared information, or simply helped spread the word—thank you! Your generosity provided more than basic necessities. It reminded these seniors that they are cared for, valued, and not facing this challenge alone.
We’re grateful to the Suncoast Aging Network for organizing this incredible community effort and to every individual and organization that made it possible.
